Triple Jump Receives EIB Financial Inclusion Grant to Support Oxfam Novib Investees’ Climate Resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa

We are excited to announce that Triple Jump has received a grant through the Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF), managed by the European Investment Bank (EIB). To date the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is the sole contributor to the Financial Inclusion Fund. The grant will support up to eight microfinance institutions based in Sub-Saharan Africa from the Oxfam Novib Fund (ONF) portfolio.

Established by EIB and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, FIF aims to provide financial resources to help financial institutions in developing countries to increase the loans given to microenterprises and other small businesses, particularly those run by marginalized groups such as women or young people in rural communities.

Through this grant, Triple Jump and the ONF will support up to six microfinance institutions (MFIs) on the assessment of institutional climate vulnerabilities and climate strategy development.  Additionally, two MFIs will receive support in evaluating their clients’ climate vulnerabilities and needs, as well as in designing new products or services to better address those needs.

Juan Luis Podesta Ruiz, ESG and Impact Officer at Triple Jump, states “By supporting microfinance institutions in identifying and mitigate their exposure to climate risks, Triple Jump helps them strengthen long term sustainability and develop financial products that properly fits their borrowers’ needs to adapt to a changing climate.”

“Our fund is dedicated to enhancing the climate resilience of small landholders and female entrepreneurs living in climate-risk-prone areas through MFIs. MFI’s integral climate risk assessments are crucial for properly developing products and services that help their clients become more resilient,” says Oxfam Novib Investments Manager Tamara Campero.

The MFIs selected for this project will operate in countries prone to climate risks where the ONF is active, such as Uganda, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Madagascar, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The grant will take place over a period of up to two years and will reinforce Triple Jump and ONF’s strong commitment to strengthening climate resilience of their clients and the communities they serve.
